Financisto 1.5.3

I’m happy to announce Financisto 1.5.3 update. The main functionality:

The long expected QIF and CSV import

QIF is a cumbersome format but it’s very popular in personal finance software and supporting it was vital for Financisto users (second popular request on our Uservoice). QIF import is still experimental and only supports full import – meaning that all current data will be erased the same way as in Database Restore. Supporting partial import is my next todo item.

CSV import is experimental as well :) Here are the current limitations: only partial import supported into single account, all entities should already be present in the database (categories, project, locations). We’ll work on fixing these limitations in the future releases. It is important to have correct file format for CSV import – it should be in UTF-8 and has the header line like in this example.

To select QIF or CSV file for import you would need a file explorer installed on your phone. OI File manager is a decent open-source app you can use.

Auto-fill category when selecting a payee

Category is now associated with Payee field. When you select a payee, the Category field will be auto-completed with the last used category for this payee.

Fixed the bug with case-sensitive payee search

It was a problem for non-English languages that the search for payee was case-sensitive. There are still some limitations, but at least it will ignore the first letter, so search for “пар” will return both “парковка” и “Парковка”.

  1. Great post. I used to be checking constantly this weblog and I am impressed! Extremely useful info particularly the closing phase :) I care for such information much. I was seeking this certain info for a long time. Thank you and best of luck.

  2. 很不错的软件,但是在导入CSV文件时,不知道用什么格式,老是出错

  3. Where can I go for some support? I know this is open source, so is there a forum? I’ve searched and can only find one for feature requests.

I have imported one csv, but a second one does nothing, not even an error message.

    Thanks.

  4. Great software, I really like it, especially some thinks like the templates.
It would be great, if there would be a possibility to upload a list of categories so that I don’t have to set these up manually (or alternatively that with a normal CSV-upload all new categories are added to the category-database).
    Thanks a lot, great work!

  5. I love these new feature (importing from csv), I just move all my transactions from an iOS app and, with some effort, worked like a charm! =)

Congrats for such a wonderful app

  6. Hello!

Congratulations for great finance open-source app!

After trying several aps and even buying one, when I was told about Financisto on the GnuCash mailing list, I immediately installed it and very soon ‘bought’ the donation ‘version’.

Now, when I see that “Supporting partial import is my next todo item.” I wonder whether it would allow to do Financisto GnuCash 2-way sync?

    Sincerely,
    Gour

  7. First of all congrats for this helpful application.
My issue is that I am trying to import a csv file exported previously from Financisto. The thing is that I only manage to import the date, the rest of fields are empty. This is my example:
    date,time,account,amount,currency,category,parent,payee,location,project,note
    2011-11-20,21:25:47,Efectivo,55.00,EUR,”",”",”",Ubicacion actual,Sin proyecto,nota
Thank you very much for your support!

    • Hey Javier,
a bit late, but with me it was the “sine projecto”, since this is in the export as an automativ value, but should not be within the import (because there is no project called “sine projecto” in the database I guess).

  8. Opposite experience here :-) I would LOVE to have the category field auto-filled but it does not happen on my droid pro…

  9. Hi! Really good soft. I’ve been using Easy Money for a couple of months and now I reviewed Financisto. Only one thing missing, which I think is a very important thing. I mean a CASHFLOW report. I strongly recommend to add a casflow report in the nearest update :). Best regards!

  10. “Auto-fill category when selecting a payee” feature actually worsens my experience. I do not use Payee field (and even have it hidden), and in the earlier versions I always had “last category” auto-filled in every account when I started new transation. Now I have category field empty every time. It would be nice to have that feature back, i.e. “empty payee” could also have “last category” remembered.
